4th Annual
Celebration of Nonviolence
on the birth of
Mahatma Mohandas Gandhi

140 TODAY!
Friday, October 2, 2009
40+ celebrate on a wet and cold morning... while four attempt to engage ATK in nonviolent dialogue.
A short introduction by John Hynes; music throughout by Bret Hesla; what we imagined Gandhi would have said; facts about the money spent on war and the healthcare it could (should) provide; and placing our hopes for peace messages all around in Alliant's landscaping.
As a bell tolled 140 times and a light mist began to fall, four members of AlliantACTION walked up to the front door of Alliant before being stopped. They were attempting to deliver to ATK CEO Dan Murphy the document Employee Liabilities of Weapon Manufacturers Under International Law. ATK officials refused to accept the book and asked Eden Prairie Police to arrest the individuals unless they left the property. Roger, Geri, Kate and Steve refused to leave without at least an appointment and were subsequently arrested.
While the four were being processed on site by EPPD, we sang happy birthday to Gandhi and enjoyed birthday cupcakes. It was continuing to mist when they were released.
Steve has posted his reflections on his blog Mennonista.
This is a visual representation of the event. It is not meant to be complete, but rather a glimpse of the moment.
