WAMM Walk Against Weapons
ATK to ATK
old to new
Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Minnesota
Saturday, May 24, 2008
Women Against Military Madness was a long time participant in the yearly Headwaters Walk for Justice, a fundraiser for Minnesota nonprofits. In January, the Headwaters Foundation announced they would no longer be organizing the yearly Walk for Justice.
WAMM and AlliantACTION organized a fundraising walk for WAMM from ATK's old corporate headquarters in Edina to their new "protester proof" building in Eden Prairie. WALK AGAINST WEAPONS is the result of a collaboration between the two groups.

We began the walk with a short cleansing ritual at the front door of ATK's former headquarters in Edina. We all blessed the water for the cleansing. Then Jeanne said some prayers while John and Brigid sprinkled the water.
John Varone, Minnesota Veterans for Peace chapter President, gave a Native blessing with sage. We sang as we moved back down the driveway for the walk to begin.
We leave Edina for the last time. For the next 2 miles we walk through Hopkins, another former site of Alliant's headquarters. ATK moved to Edina from Hopkins in the fall of 2001. Before they moved, Hopkins Police made 404 arrests for acts of nonviolent civil resistance at ATK. They were happy we were just walking through today.
After the walk the group relaxed and rewards were handed out.
Winning the Spirit Awards were our instrumental musicians along the route: Jo on the mandolin; Roger on the cittern; and Mark on the diatonique accordion; Brigid for song singing plus Gaius for spontaneous song writing.
